About Us

Sam McArthur

Sam, the ‘Search Savvy Marketer’, started working in internet marketing back in 2000 when her interest in the internet got the better of her. She first went online in 1996 and her thoughts about being a web designer led her into internet marketing – a big change from handling Government contracts for the defence sector! She started her own consultancy, Forty First, in 2002 after working in house for a leading job board and then for an internet marketing agency in Brighton where she honed her SEO skills with projects for The Times, Thistle Hotels, Airmiles & The Ramblers Association. Sam also speaks fluent French.

“What I like about the internet and more recently social media is the ability to get your message across to people worldwide and connect with people you would never previously have had the opportunity to do. More people are being brought together and causes are getting more publicity, which is great!”

Five things not many people know about me!

1. I’m a bit of an outdoors type, enjoying going for walks every day with Spike ‘the office manager’ and longer walks at weekends with my husband too.

2. I enjoy cooking and am a rather avid collector of recipes! Most weekends I’ll try and cook something new.

3. I enjoy rummaging around antiques fairs and junk shops for vintage or interesting pieces for our home.

4. I have a soft spot for most things feathered & furry (other than the furry spider types)!

5. Didn’t do the triathlon in the end, but hoping to do a charity run in 2013 instead!

Louise Barnes-Johnston

Louise is the ‘Social Savvy Marketer’, also known online as @LouiseBJ. Following 20 years in the corporate cubicle, she set up her first business in 1998, took delivery of a computer and became acquainted with dial-up internet access! A website followed in 2001 and that’s when things started to get interesting!

In 2005, fed up with not being able to update her site as often as she wanted, Louise built her own first website and surprised herself when it all seemed to work. 2007 saw the launch of her first blog, followed closely by the start of her enduring love affair with Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.

“What I find fascinating about the internet is how it’s constantly changing and evolving. Social media is a great leveller as you can often connect directly with leaders and senior figures without encountering their gate-keeper or voicemail. The past few years online have been so interesting – and who knows what the next few will bring!”

Five things not many people know about me!

1. I’m more of an indoors type and enjoy relaxing by reading gory murder mystery books! To give you an idea, 3 of my favourite authors are Tess Gerritson, Kathy Reichs, Lisa Gardner.

2. Oddly (given #1 above) I can’t watch horror films or spooky TV programmes as they scare me too much and give me nightmares. Vampires in particular terrify me, so I missed out on the whole Twilight scene…

3. I enjoy cooking as well – unfortunately I tend to eat too much of the end results.

4. As a frustrated singer (don’t even go there!), I love listening to music throughout the day, mainly rock and pop.

5. I rode a motorcycle for 7 years (many years ago, much to the dismay of my parents) and even passed the test so I could ride even bigger bikes ;)
