How Do You Keep Up With Your Favourite Blogs?

feedlyI spend an awful lot of time online, which also means I’ve subscribed to an awful lot of blogs (and there are some great ones out there)! This means I end up spending quite a lot of time keeping up with all these blogs, mostly to stay up to date with what’s happening in the world of search and social media, but also to keep up with my own interests and hobbies.

I find that keeping up with all these blogs isn’t always easy, mostly lack of time to read them all regularly, but there are a few useful ways which can make it a bit easier to keep up with them. If you’re familiar with RSS feeds then these are by far the easiest ways to keep up with reading your favourite blog. We’ve covered what RSS feeds are in a previous post (Make it Easy to Subscribe to Your Blog) and both Louise and I have migrated from Google Reader as our feed reader of choice, to Feedly, which has a magazine like interface. Feedly makes it easy to categorise the blogs you like reading into categories that you create yourself, and it’s easy to glance through your categories with the latest feeds and decide which posts to read.

Oddly, I also receive some blogs by email! I’m not sure why, perhaps it made sense to do so when I subscribed! This means I receive notification of some blog posts into my inbox. It’s a good idea to offer both options to your blog subscribers (i.e subscribing by RSS feed or by email), as you’ll still get people who prefer to read the latest blog posts by email or just get odd people like me who receive some by email and some by an RSS feed!

The other way I keep up with the latest posts is via a feed reader on my ipod touch, I use Mobile RSS (a free iphone app) and can catch up with blog posts while watching the telly, so this has been really useful. There are many free and paid mobile RSS readers if you take a look through iTunes.

So which blogs do I regularly read? Here are a few of my favourites:

Problogger – blog on professional blogging with lots of great tips and insights

Chris Brogan – social media expert, gives a lot a way, and has a huge following

Outspoken Media – SEO & Social media experts, I really like their approach to their blog – writing style as well as useful posts

SEOmoz – SEO experts mostly for people working in the SEO industry

Search Engine Land – latest search engine news, updated several times per day

Freelance Switch – marketing for freelancers, with useful tips and ideas

Zen Habits – how to simplify your life

La Tartine Gourmande – fantastic food & photography

French Word A Day – a French word with a story (helps me keep up my French vocabulary!)

This French Life – news on living in France for expats

I also subscribe to many great blogs by other business owners I know, which are numerous.

Which are your favourite blogs and why? Please share them here!

    Hi Sam,

This is a great list of the bloggers. I have taken the RSS from these sites. Also you may like to read Seth Godin as well. Try that out, he is a terrific writer.
