The latest Google tool that’s creating a stir in blogs and on Twitter, is Google Profiles. For small business owners who are building their personal brand online, this is good news and important for a few reasons.
• It gives you control over what is said about you on Google. Third party entries are rarely very informative and may be out of date.
• You can include links to your website and blog as well as to other social networking sites where you have profiles.
• When anyone searches for your name on Google, the profile entry will show up the results – and the more detailed your profile, the higher up the rankings it will appear.
It’s too early to know whether Google is trying to take on Facebook and plans to turn this function into a social network, but for now, it’s certainly a powerful way to develop and share a professional online profile.
